Our Story
We Love Craft & Fashion
We have a passion for so many things, but design, fashion & craft are what we love. Using our hands bring us joy, and with this we have combined our desire to design & create. Inspiration for kawaidesigns come from our close connection with traditional Japanese design, but we like to twist it a bit with modern playfulness. Family, including our dogs have a strong influence in our work, as well nature and small beautiful things that surround us in our daily lives.
All Hand Made
One aspect of hand made original items is each can be unique, with texture, colors, and varying finishes. We like it this way, so items that are shown today, are likely to be slightly different than what is crafted tomorrow. We select materials that have low impact on the environment, in the tradition of "mottainai". This comes from Japan, and a spirit of no waste, and placing a high value on materials, and as little waste as possible. We want to make an effort as a responsible brand in this age of sustainability.
Our Home Design Studio
We say this candidly. kawaidesigns is a home based design studio. At least for the moment, as we have aspirations to grow this brand and expand with it. For now though, we are still small, focused, creative, and constantly learning.

Sustainability & Environment
We are are focusing on sustainable materials. Our new Keychain Wallets and Key Covers are made from Buttero vegetable tanned leather from Conceria Walpier in Italy. They are well known for their premium vegetable tanned leathers and the beautiful colors they are able to produce. They are part of a consortium of 20 tanneries in Tuscany Italy. The group is united in the production of leathers, focusing on social responsibility, no animals being killed for skin only, metal free, quality control, and environmental certifications, Please find this link to read all about it, and more information.

Collaborations
In April 2021, Mohindershoes launched a limited artist collaboration with us. We worked so hard on this project, hand painting their beautiful shoes. Our "Playful Dots" design look so nice on them. They are not available anymore, but check out @mohindershoes.
